This work really bring view lots of thought about modernism. Technology is developing still, things like computers, cameras, cellphones always updated so fast, it is so fast that we don't have enough time to follow, not everyone can afford to use the newest product. Hatsushiba used a Sony single CCD miniDV video camera with an underwater camera housing which he purchased a year ago. He mention that the quality of equipment that he uses has improved since the first video. The second and third videos were shot with similar cameras to the first. For the fourth video, he upgraded to a 3CCD camera. He was getting goose bumps looking down at the bottom of the ocean where he had placed the mosquito nets. He interprets goose bumps as an interaction with the supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI think Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba's work Memorial Project Nha Trang, Vietnam: Towards the Complex—For the Courageous, the Curious, and the Cowards is more like performance than sculpture to me because his work was concerned with cyclos, human-powered rickshaws that are used to transport goods and people in Vietnam. This cheap means of transportation has provided a source of income for many of those unemployed as a result of the country’s reunification. Modernization, however, has made these vehicles, which are good for the environment, but slow moving and old-fashioned, unwelcome on Vietnamese city streets; and the government has banned further production of cyclos. ReplyDeletePersonally, He is artist that i like the most since i have been doing the blog because his work is not just picture, sculpture or underwater landscape. It's more deeply about feeling and thought and concerned the shock of modernisation by used real 5 fisherman abandon the cyclos and swin together toward underwater.
