  1. 1.The Walters prize is a prestigious award and plays an important role in NZ contemporary art. It was named by the artist called Gordon Walters who was well known to contribution to the NZ art. This prize was established in 2002 and the founders of it are Erika and Robin Congreve and Dame Jenny Gibbs. Every two years, it involves the winner who will receive $50,000 and have the opportunities that is to go to New York and exhibit at Saatchi & Saatchi headquarters.

2.> Dan Arps, - Explaining Things 2009 jams together the expressive and the deadpan. Mass culture detritus -- You Tube clips, surniture, ornaments and posters -- are reworked into what sometimes appear illegibly personal artifacts.
    > Fiona Connor, - Something Transparent (please go around the back) 2009 Echoing and initially installed within the window space.
    > Saskia Leek, - Yellow is the Putty of the world 2009 aligns such over-determined starting points for the act of painting as a idea bowl of fruit with now equally familiar idea of abstraction.
    > Alex Monteith, - Passing Manoeuvre with two motorcycles and 584 Vehicles for two channel video 2008

3.Jon Bywater - Programme Leader, Critical Studies at Elam School of Fine Art, The University of Auckland.

4.Vicente Todoli was director of London's Tate Modern from 2003-2010. He was a prime mover in the Tate's global success - now the most visited modern art museum in the world. From 1989-96 TodolĂ was artistic director for The Valencia Institute for Modern Art (IVAM), Spain, and before it opened he was their Chief curator. Throughout his distinguished career he organised and curated internationally renowned exhibitions of work by contemporary artists, making him the perfect choice to be this years judge.

5.I think Fiona Connor will nominated for this year Walter's Prize because i really like the way she played around with a space of gallery. She adapts her work to suite with the gallery and I still got 'Something Transparent', It's a illusion if you don't spend time with this piece you will not get what is transparent. After i drew her work with the wall in my sketch book i came to get an idea what is transparent. It was a construction transparency into the wall of the gallery. I am impressed with this work because she's very smart and playful thinking of how to adapt and flexible of work when it's come to real life, I got an idea of 'We should flexible and adapt to environment and atmosphere in our life to work on and survive. An important idea that i came up with after i looked at her work is Art has been adapting and depending on artist itself and atmosphere. I give her 9/10.

  2. I didn't really have a good look at Fiona Connors work, or understand it, but you show it in an interesting light. the work seems to be flexible, simple yet shows an interesting idea. I find the work to be rather impressive after all. I also like how you related the work to life "We should be flexible and adapt to environment and atmosphere in our life to work on and survive"
